Air Quality Worsens in Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, and Surrounding Areas as Boyle Heights Fire Continues to Smolder
Note to readers: this is an UPDATE to the report sent out earlier this morning. Air quality changed swiftly and drastically.
After appearing to avoid the worst effects of the Boyle Heights warehouse fire earlier in the week, Eagle Rock experienced a sharp decline in air quality Saturday morning.
Several PurpleAir monitors in and around Eagle Rock recorded Air Quality Index readings above 200, a level considered "Very Unhealthy." One local monitor registered an air quality index (AQI) of 265 Saturday morning, while several nearby sensors reported similar readings.

The change comes as firefighters continue to battle hot spots and smoldering material at the fire site. Earlier air-quality advisories had focused primarily on Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, but changing conditions appear to have carried smoke farther into Northeast Los Angeles.
It is advised to reconsider outdoor activities especially for young children, the elderly, anyone with asthma, other health conditions, or a sensitivity to smoke.
