A few readers suggested that we send out the Events newsletter earlier in the week so people have more time to plan. Good idea. Starting this week, look for Events on Tuesdays and the newsier newsletter on Thursdays.

TERA has updated the useful flyer it created for local World Cup watching spots. Support local businesses while enjoying the matches, and maybe even make a few new friends.

Just think, years from now you’ll be able to say, “I saw [so-and-so future comedy superstar] do a stand-up set at a little place in Eagle Rock.”

You may have noticed the planetary lineup of Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter over the past few nights, but tonight the crescent moon joins the three to create a dramatic “triangle with a tail.” Venus and Jupiter appear brightest and should be easiest to spot, while Mercury will sit lower near the horizon. On Wednesday, look for a slanted vertical chain.

Weather conditions are also aligning for prime viewing. The skies will be clear, with temperatures in Eagle Rock in the mid- to upper 60s. (That’s about 19 to 20 degrees Celsius for our World Cup visitors.)

This is a perfect excuse for a romantic moment, a fun and educational pre-bedtime sky-watch with the kids, or even just a beautiful solo pause to ponder what it all means. Look for the activity PDF for kids at the end of this newsletter.

When: Best viewing times will be roughly 8:35 to 9:05 p.m., though Venus and Jupiter may remain visible longer.

Advance screening of this Netflix rom-com about a woman, played by Zoey Deutch, who leaves long voicemails for her dead sister. Followed by a conversation with director Leah McKendrick and Deutch.

Thirtieth-anniversary screening of the cult classic satire by the Canadian sketch comedy team, with special guest “Kid” Scott Thompson.

Food, baked goods, micheladas, live music, local artists, and craft and jewelry vendors.

The pioneering Black director, who got his start as an actor, will be on hand for a discussion following this 1992 neo-noir about a DEA agent, played by Laurence Fishburne, who goes undercover as a dealer in order to dismantle a labyrinthine drug network.

TERA board member Colleen Corcoran leads walks and hikes on some of her favorite Eagle Rock streets, stairs, and trails, this time up Fiji Hill and back.

From TERA: “Kids are welcome, but we will be on some steep streets and trails where strollers are not accessible. Hiking shoes recommended. We will walk a 2.5-mile loop and should be back at Rock Coffee before 11 a.m.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the head of a special forces team that takes on a mysterious alien in a sweltering jungle. Special guests Bill Duke and Richard Chaves, who co-starred in the 1987 sci-fi classic, will attend the screening. Shown in 35mm.

Bring lawn chairs, beach towels, and a picnic for a fun evening in the park with live entertainment and a live drone show after sundown. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

The Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council is sponsoring a clothing drive for the residents of Eagle Rock Tiny Homes.

Requested items: “T-shirts, shorts, socks — all genders.”

Please note this drive is for new clothing items only.

Where: The drop-off donation box is at Eagle Rock City Hall, 2035 Colorado Blvd.
When: The box is accessible 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday. Items can also be brought to the next ERNC meeting on July 7 at 7 p.m.
